Special Camp Report
  • NSS special camp was held for a week in Doddakanagal village, Alur Taluk, Hassan District, Karnataka from 15-03-2009 to 21-03-2009
  • The camp was directed by Dr.K.S.Gangadhar, Principal, HIMS, Hassan.
  • Guidance by Dr.Suresh Prabu, Assistant Professor, HIMS, Hassan

  • 58 Volunteers were participated and were sorted into 5 groups

  • Daily programme schedule allotted to either of the 5 teams on Rotation basis that is
  • Sharmadhana
  • Stage setting
  • Health Check up Camp
  • Family Health Survey
  • Food Arrangement
  • Diary writing about daily events

Conclusion:

  • In these 7 days, all the volunteers and the groups participated in various activities like Health Check up Camp, Family Health Survey, Food Arrangements, Shramadhana (Field work), Stage Set up and got a chance to learn about the problems present in village.
  • In the health camp, Dermatologist, Peadtrician, Medicine, Surgery and OBG Specialist were invited on separate days to the camp for special check up of village patients.
  • About 50 villagers got their Blood Glouse level checked.
  • About 300 Children and 150 adults underwent medical check up.
  • About 350 people got their blood groups checked.
  • Also students did general health check up and gave health education to all the students of Government School, Doddakanagal.

Family Health Survey:

  • More than 275 Houses were surveyed and the main health problem identified they are
  • Skin Diseases
  • Sanitation Problem
  • Water Problem.etc..

Shramadhan (Field Work)

  • All our students did lot of field work by making proper way for sewage, cutting thorn plants and weeds and also made people realize the importance of cleanliness.
  • Thus the camp was very fruitful both to the villagers and the students.
  • The students have learnt to be systematic and disciplined, also have learnt about adjusting and helping others in their need. They have become more service minded.

 

World Environment Day Report

Date: 5th June 2009

Mother Teresa rightly said,” We can’t do great things in life, but we can do small things with great love”.
This rightly came into existence on the “World Environment Day “celebration held on 5th June at Hassan Institute of Medical Science under the guidance of HIMS NSS Unit.
HIMS NSS Unit in collaboration with the forest department, Zilla Panchayat, Pollution Control Board, Hassan Press Association, Ornithologists’ association and Punya Bhumi group celebrated “ World Environment Day “ in the premises of the college on 5th June 2009, Friday.
The Programme was inaugurated by watering flower plants and planting numerous mahogany saplings around the premises. It was inaugurated by the Mayor Smt Rathnamma Mahanthesh.
It was presided by Hassan D.C. Mr.Naveen Raj Singh. Also Zilla Panchayath secretary Mr.Ayyapa, Forest Officer, Mr. Keshavamurthy, Mr Ambadi Yadav, Social forest officer Mr. Balachandra, HIMS vice principal Dr.Ravikumar,HIMS Chief Administrative Officer Mr.Venkatesh gowda and HIMS NSS Programme officer Mr.R.Vijay Kumar  were among the dignitaries who witnessed the celebration.
Various folk sons were sung on the importance of preserving environment. Also prizes were distributed to school children who participated in several activities like essay writing painting and many more. Mr.Aniketh of 9th Std from Hassan United Academy presented a talk about the importance of preserving environment.
This day was also marked by the inauguration of “ECHO Club” of HIMS. Its aims and objectives were stressed by Mr.Mahabalesh a medico and chief of the club.
It was also marked by Taking of a vow for all NSS Volunteers(100), students and other dignitaries which stressed on this year’s World Environment day slogan, “Ur Plant needs u come control the environment variations”.

Totally a programme of 3 hours neatly arranged and executed which imbibed a message in all its participants.
 

NSS Health Checkup Camp HGP School

Voluntary Blood Donors Day Report

“Donate blood, Save Life”
Blood donation is the need of the day especially in rural setups of a developing country like ours. Understanding the seriousness of this issue, voluntary blood donation programme was conducted on 27th August 2009 at HIMS, Hassan by Jointly Dist Health and Family Welfare office, Lions Club, Rotary Club and HIMS NSS unit.
Blood requirement is an emergency in most conditions and a good number of cases take a jatal turn due to lack of timely blood supply. Hence educating and encouraging all healthy citizens to donate these precious drops was the main motto behind the rally undertaken by students and faculty at 9.a.m. on the same day which began from HIMS premises and marched through the main roads of Hassan. The rally was inaugurated by Dr.Nagaraja Rao, District Health Officer. Through this an attempt at clearing any false belief and stigma attached to donation of blood was made.
Following this was a formal function inaugurated by Dr.D.Premkumar, District Surgeon Hassan in the presence of Dr.K.S.Gangadhar, Director, HIMS Hassan,Dr.Dinesh, Rotary club Hassan, Mr.Shabir Ahamed President, Hasanamba Lions Club, Mr.M.Krishnappa.NSS Prgramme Officer, Govt Science College, Mr.Papegowda, Dist Health Education Officer as chief guests, Dr.Chinna Nagappa, Dist AIDS Control and Prevention Officer and Mr.R.Vijay Kumar, HIMS NSS Programme Officer made a enlighten speech as the subject concerned which was greatly appreciated by all present.
The function also included the honoring of 10 volunteers who had donated up to 18 units of blood and rightly disserved recognition. They also shared few thoughts about malpractice associated with donation of life saving fluid and the whole procedure in a normal govt set up.
By the end of the programme our minds too were inspired by life saving miracle that blood donation at the right time could do and we all take an oath to do so whenever the need arises, at least once in a life time.

Dr.Chinna Nagappa, Dist AIDS Prevention and Control Officer gave a lecture regarding voluntary blood donation. More than 20 Medical students voluntarily donate the blood on this vacation.
